THE FOLLOWING PICTURES TAKEN DURING THE 2016 GARDENING SEASON
During the 'bleak, cold winter' one wonders if a) spring will come and b) how much of the garden has survived. But, miraculously it does and much survives!  First the lawns turn from brown to green, then the perennial shoots appear. These views start with a picture of the winter garden. Then, at  the north west corner of the property, the Pontentilla was replaced with a Spirea for more colour.
The last and the next pictures several show our attempts to add some colour to the front border that extends east down the side of the property. Generally we manage to generate
colour from early spring to [late] fall.  The lilies shown are either to the front of the border or struggling to survive under the birch tree..

We are pleased with our hostas that fill the border

There are probably seven or eight different varieties. Here they share the border with a Panicle Hydrangea, Quick Fire. .   Spirea front left has been moved to the south border, the Hostas remain. The clematis puts on a fairly good display. This border is a bit of a challenge but it is
beginning to be filled with different plants. The blue ones shown are almost weed like as are the shasta daisies... The potentilla was rescued from a less favourable spot and is doing well
This aster blooms in the fall and is a good variety for the border. Clematis, here and in full bloom..the white variety has disappeared Hen and chicks
and in flower Potted petunias...good for the summer A well filled border and again showng some blooms
The reliable lily Three different hydrangeas all in bloom
More from the same border and here.... These pictures put together are the south border
they are not in correct order but what the hey.... They show the border with lots of flowers healthy growth
shrubs and hostas our artic willow shorn...
A tin tulip and escort a dahlia and a forgotten plant a dahlia and of course, a rose
or two A view of the east end of the garden... Seems to me these are in the wrong order but you get the picture...
More roses under attack and defeated... buried?
a perennial sunflower framed!! Roses same again...
view of the garden with roses....
Rose trimmed...
More roses... The bower...
open to attack replaced...an improvment we hope! The fountain, even headless, attracts many flowers  at different times..
Dahlias and again.... a new perennial an old 'weeping' garagana
Delphiniums.... not your average day lily Views of the borders lot of varieties
and still more and more there's the day lily again and you can't beat this white phlox
Yarrow, grows like a weed but puts on a good show... Eliza's garden Potted plants, give lots of colour, quickly
difficult to keep in top shape but worth the effort.... will try again and agaln....

This sad looking Potentiila was purchased over twenty years ago...it has survived three moves...the first several years produced excellent blooms..it is now in its final resting place...
It's hard to beat a lily... Trying to get poppies to take over...limited success.. And here.... same border different poppies. More phlox and behind it an unknown plant..
Shall find the names of these plants, they always survive the witner..a little invasive... Absolutely delighted to see this plant survive
the winter and flower... The Campion was one plant of several purchased in 2015, it survived the winter
and flowered, not a great plant...but it survived the winter...
The word was that Cosmos would self seed in great numbers...we waited and waited... then one plant

NOVEMBER WEATHER
November weather was certainly different...after the snow fall show in the picture to the left, the weather changed and temperatures as high as 19C experienced and enjoyed

Other activites...the roses in the back bed were removed... will need more plants to take their places... Aha!
.

Jude's pot of Pansies
Roses put to bed for the winter...
And, nicely blanketed.....
