GARDEN SEASON 2020 | ||||
April 22 Quick survey of the garden showed some greenery...Back clematis and dusty miller showing a few shoots. Tulips. Cleared the dead material from the hosta beds...no shoots yet. April 24 Dead headed items in the back yard. Feels good to get outside.
Lawns raked by Ryan ago, [April 24-5] now for aerating and fertilizer. Lawns, front and back, look in good shape. End of April | June 14 quite the change! | The roses in bloom picture from 2016, so the roses must have been planted earlier than that. Unfortunately they deteriorated, both in appearance and increasing appearances of 'black spot'. It was decided we would cut tjem down to ground level. A change of heart occurred and we are now encouraging base growth..and they are. growing.
2020-06-18: These are views of the garen taken in the last couple of days. The garden does not vary much! The plants are the good old standbys that survive our winters. That's not a plant in the last photo...that's Elizabeth getting her hands dirty in the garden, with her doggie companion GeeGe.
. | I am not going to name the plants, unless under threat of death! I thoughtr I would merely take photos of the early arrivals. These were all in bloom prior to June 30thy. We have had lots and lote of rain. Two weeding parties were arranged with the Tyler ladies and their Mum, both cancelled because of the heavy rain. The roses; it seemed they were in bud and then we actually had two days of hot waether and low and behold, they were in full bl;oom. No roses were lost over winter. The roses by the garage are growing like weeds, as if to say, 'you can't get rid of us that quickly'. I do want to see how they turn out and where the flowers will appear |
THE YEAR OF CONSTRUCTION
July 14, 2020-I was tardy in taking any earlier pictures, so this series starts after the walks have beenn removed and the area prepared for cement. It was noted great care was taken to get it right...several men have different tasks and they appeared to be diligent in their endeavours.By Saturday 18th the work on the steps appears to have been completed. Now for the landscaping. August 22: Road was removed and about 9" of road surface removed. Shortly thereafter the new road was completed. By September 3 all the sod had been laid. Good work.. And...and new lamp post, some one has said these are only temporary...we shall see!. |

August 15, 2020: Again plants not named! The last picture shows a astible, a gift from Sarah. It has had rough go until I moved it to the border inside the yard where most of the hydrangeas grow. It actually flowered. The two similar pictures of roses show the growth of the bushes cut down to ground level early in th spring. Quite remarkable growth. Must consider some form of support. The has to go. The two lilies are the only two if five that survived. The others, in spte of my efforts, succumbed to red bettle attacks. 'Orrible.
