Mrs. L. Smith Dear Mr. Tidridge, I read your article on Tidridge/Titheridge and new members entry in the Hampshire magazine and am writing in the hope that we are researching the same Titheridge family. My husband's great grandfather was Charles TITHERIDGE, both c 1846 Droxford. His wife was Elizabeth EMERY born c 1845 Droxford. We believe they were married on the 15 th Sept. 1864 at Alverstoke (from the Mormon index - I.G.I still to be traced) known children were: The Elizabeth born in 1866 married Walter Thomas EDMUNDS on May 4, 1886 and they had 12 children. The first being Harriett Maria Edmunds (Mike's grandmother) A Noah TITHERIDGE is also believed to be related. I have included all the above in case it ties in with what you have. Whilst looking at file 1341302, 1881 census for Droxford we noticed many Titheridges and wondered if they were all related to each other. I have picked out the following family, which I hope will be of interest to you. Henry Titheridge 44 (For Henry's family click here) Agricultural Labourer born Droxford (I think the date is wrong for it to be the Henry and Harry you seek) There were about a dozen or more Titheridge families. I also noticed one spelt Tytherage. In February, we hope to check the 1871 census and will note down the Titheridges we find, If we are not doing the same family, please let me know the names as I may find them whilst doing my own research. I have typed this so that it will be easier for you to read and look forward to hearing from you. Enclosed $1 Canadian for return postage. Yours faithfully, 7 |
12 May 1987 Dear Mr. Tidridge Thank you for your letter, charts and addresses's for Roy Daysh and Val Grievett. In our excitement on receiving your letter we forgot to thank you. Sorry for the delay in doing so. We have been in touch with Val and hope to write to Roy Daysh, once I get some urgent sewing out of the way. Mike and Val share the same ancestor - (John Titheridge and Sarah ? from Kent) The info. on them is a bit thin and hope Roy Daysh may be able to help. We are at present waiting form film (at Mormon Church) of the Parish records for Alverstoke where we expect to find the marriage of Eliz. Emery to Charles Titheridge. You mentioned looking I NZ phone directories under Titheridge. There is only on in the Auckland one, so I phoned them, to see if we are related. This is what I jotted down. J.E. Titheridge, Mr. and Mrs. Titheridge are first cousins. And this is their chart. (Their grandfather) William Titheridge married Lizabeth (no date) Their children were William, Jim, Frank, Henry born WaterlooVille (?) Hampshire, UK, Edward, born 20 th Dec. 1875, Louise (John Tidridge tried to connect Mr. & Mrs. Titheridge with the information but without success.) The family emigrated to NZ in 1874/5 Mr. And Mrs. Titheridge remembered someone coming from Canada who called on them in hope that they were related. But they were unable to find any connection. Their cousin Neil Titheridge, (for information on Neil click here You may have noticed that Mike and I are 'in print' under New Members in the Hampshire Genealogical Magazine this month. Good luck with your research Regards Mike and Linda Smith PS I tried looking for Mr. & Mrs. Titheridge's line on the charts which you sent, but could not identify any. Perhaps you might tie them in somewhere on yours. They said that their cousin Neil would be pleased to tie the two tree's together. 40 Hobby Ave 14 July 1997 Dear John, Thank you for your letter dated Feb 1995. Sorry for the long delay in replying. Your letter arrived when other priorities put correspondence on hold. I have recently caught up with the backlog of letters (some back to 1994) and now answering 1997 mail. Yours has taken a bit longer, because we had to do a bit more work on the enclosures first. I have not done any Titheridge trees as such, but did do some pedigree charts, and some family group sheets. On gathering these together for you, we noticed that we had not completed a family group sheet showing Mike's grandparents and his Aunts & Uncles. We didn't realize how many gaps there was until we did this recently to send to you. Mike's father Sidney is the only line completed. Mike's sister Wendy, who also lives here in NZ wrote to relatives in the UK for the missing information. I waited a month, but it looks like they are not going to get around to doing it. So you have it 'as is'. We were not sure if you wanted the descendants down to Mike, or back the other way. Our guess is you wanted to know where Mike fits into the large Titheridge family tree. We are enclosing the following pedigree charts and family sheets which we hope you can use. If you have any difficulty with them, please let us know; (1) Pedigree chart A (starts with Mike's father Sidney Smith The Titheridges of Droxford Tree was completed by Dr Mike Titheridge (sic) in Last Sussex, who has done some extensive trees. I have highlighted Mike's line on it down to Elizabeth Titheridge & Walter Edmunds. (4) & (3) of the family group sheets will take you down to Mike's Dad You might notice on the family sheet (5) we have an extra child listed for Charles T & Elizabeth Emery then shown on Dr. Mike's trees:(Ann 13 Sept 1868) We have also corresponded with Val Grevitt, who has sadly passed away before we could meet. Also enclosed are some NZ stamps. I am sending a postcard of NZ stamps by separate post because it would not fit in the envelope. Good luck with your research and 'program'. Hope you are no longer "struggling" with it. Regards, Linda and Mike
