AUGUST 5 Daisy House Farm: For the third time in three years the Tylers have invited us (Nana and Granddad) to join them at the Daisy House Farm (for information on the farm and its location click here). The Farm which is actually a Bed and Breakfast is a 2 hour drive from Edmonton (211 km), all highway driving apart from a kilometer from either end! The farm is, as most city dwellers would describe it, "in the middle of nowhere". Situated south of Highway 42 on Range Road 244, near Pine Lake. Pine Lake was visited , with deadly results by a tornado several years ago. The biggest establishment nearby would be Red Deer, to the north. During the six hours we spent with the family we were spoiled rotten... which helped Nana with her arthritis and IT Band Syndrome. G-Dad was consoled with extra attention as his brilliant, largely unreported, athletic career drew to a close...our The old adage of 'one picture is worth a thousand words' so, to see more than on picture click here We were unable to picture the eagle that glided overhead, although far distant. A good time was had by all... |

Getting it all together meant a lot of help from a lot of people... Darrel from the City of Edmonton Parks and Recreation area who suggested the idea in the first place, Yvette who picked up the torch and re-ignited its failing flame. Barb then helped to carry it along. The Highlands Community League supported the venture from the get-go. Thanks also go to Hannah our photographer. After some minor contretemps a publisher was sought and, enter the picture, Boyd and Laura England. Through their company, Dunster Designs, the book was put together and finally published. Each person had a personal interest in the book and donated much time and effort in its production. 'Book launch' dawned as a bright sunny day, the stall for sales was situated in the Highlands Park as the community league was celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Highlands Community. People attending the stall expressed delight at the book, and a reasonable number responded by purchasing copies.
