September 2018 Hello John, I too am a Titheridge descendant and have been following the various blogs for a year or so as I build my own tree. Following your recent entries on the Facebook group I thought I’d look into your branch and add it to my tree on the My Heritage website. https://www.myheritage.com/site-family-tree-260501321/pritchard I believe that Harriet Ann Tidridge b.Q4 1840 became pregnant by her employer George H Doswell in 1861. George H Doswell was a surgeon and general practitioner and never married. He had probably had an illegitimate child with a previous servant. I found Harriet’s son Edwin Tidridge b.Q1 1862 in the 1881 census (named Edwin Tetheridge) where he was described as the natural brother of Herbert Doswell who was 14 years older than him. Herbert also had his mother living with him who described herself as the wife of a surgeon. George H Doswell died in Q4 1877 and Harriet then finally married John Saunders on July 12 1879. John Saunders was a career soldier who had retired when he married Harriet. I find it unlikely that John Saunders was the father of Harriet’s son Edwin born over 17 years before they were married. Edwin married Hannah Mary Smith Q3 1897 in Fulham and had a daughter and 4 sons with her before he died in 1908. The youngest of these was given the middle name Dowdswell. This is a further indication that he believed this was a family name and is probably a spelling variation of his father’s surname. Only their son William Edwin Tidridge married and had children, the others all died without having children. When Edwin Tidridge died in 1908 his widow Hannah was left with 3 young boys. The youngest died a year later. Hannah married again in Q3 1910 to a pawnbroker manager Fred Youngman and the 2 remaining boys from the first marriage were put in boarding schools. She had a daughter with Fred Youngman in Q1 1911 named Rosa Annie. Rosa married a jewellery salesman called William Bolton and lived in Hertfordshire until she died in April 1990. This may all be known to you but that is not apparent from your blog at: which I saw after following the facebook story. If you would like me to download and pass on the census pages that I have seen let me know. Yours Truly, Chris Pritchard And from my notes of many years prior From the Notes of Mike and Ann Titheradge: According to June Morgan's information Harriett Ann had two children by a Doctor Dosell (Boswell or Doweswell) of Romsey. Elen the first child was born deformed and her body was on display in the Medical Museum of St. Thomas Hospital, London, Eng. see also Edwin Alfred Tidridge |
