Lt. Com. B. Titheridge served on the ships shown above. The pictures were taken from various sources on the web.

BENJAMIN TITHERIDGE MVO.  LIEUTENANT  COMMANDER RN. 1857-1918.
1881......Seaman/Gunner on HMS Australia.
1883......Petty Officer
1885......Warrant Gunner on HMS St. Vincent flagship stationed at Portsmouth

The St Vincent was laid down at Plymouth Dockyard in the year after Trafalgar, and launched with great eclat before 50,000 spectators, in the year of Waterloo. She was one of three sister 120 gun first-rates, the Nelson, the Howe and the St Vincent were named in honour of the three great Admirals. Only the St Vincent survived to serve as flagship at Portsmouth and in the 1840's in the Channel and the Mediterranean. She then served as a training ship for boys at Portsmouth for over 25 years.

1887.......Gunner on HMS Carysfort serving in the Mediterranean
1895......Gunner on HMS Orlando (flag ship) serving in Australia
1901......Gunner on HMS Trafalgar (port guard ship) at Portsmouth
H.M.S. Trafalgar taken in 1901. When Benjamin served on her as Gunner. Not sure what this means
1901......Gunner on H.M. Yacht Osbourne at Portsmouth
H.M. Yacht Osbourne 2. Benjamin spent 7 years on her . She took part in the Naval review for Edward the VII's coronation.

1904......Chief Gunner on H.M Yacht Osbourne still at Portsmouth
1908......Chief Gunner on H.M. Yacht Alexandra still at Portsmouth
1909......Lieutenant(MVO)
1910......Lieutenant HMS President a drill ship.
1914......Lieutenant (staff) at Dartmouth Naval College, Dartmouth
1917......Lieutenant Commander at Dartmouth Naval College, Dartmouth.

This is a copy of an entry in the Dartmouth Chapel. Benjamin Titheridge has the final entry on this page. Benjamin's early training in the Navy is unknown at this time, although I do know he spent some time on H.M.S. Excellent, (the gunnery training ship). After retiring in 1911-1912,he was recalled for service in 1914,his appointment was at Dartmouth naval college, firstly as staff lieutenant, and then in 1917 as Lieutenant Commander. During his time here the naval staff were borne in the books of H.M.S. Pomone.

Thanks to Bruce Titheridge for sending it to me

This information was taken from John T's Family Tree file and edited for this web page. The original makes mention of photographs...however!

February 2015: Photograph from Martin Titheridge: Shows a picture of his grandfather, Harry Percival Titheridge, who is holding Martin's father, Arnold Baird Titheridge, back in 1931, in Woolston, Southampton, Hants. UK.

Martin said it was said that Harry looked much like his father, Benjamin Titheridge and wondered if there was a certain Titheridge look or was it restricted to each family branch.
